EPDM Rubber Roof Systems

The roofing industry has seen many changes with materials in roof membranes.  Over the past thirty years EPDM Rubber Roofing Membranes have stood the test of time with virtually no change in the EPDM formulation, making it an ideal material for both new and re-roof low-slope roofing applications.

EPDM membrane for roofs is essentially one piece of rubber, cut to size for your job. The rubber roofing membrane can survive all forms of weathering and will last 40 years or more.  It is so strong it's been tested to withstand desert and arctic temperatures. Roofing membranes made up of rubber have the integrity to hold up well over years of thermal cycling, inclement weather, extreme UV exposure and the ability to stay flexible at cold temperatures.  EPDM membranes also meet the strict rigors of the wind uplift codes and will not easily separate at the seams.

EPDM rubber roof materials have a range of ways that they can be installed.  Even the installation methods of Rubber membranes are economical and easy with the proper tools.  The most typical ways of installing rubber roofing is a ballasted system, mechanical and fully adhered.

EPDM membranes are available in three typical thicknesses:  45  Mil, 60 Mil and 90 Mil.  The Mil refers to thousands of inch.  For example, the 60 Mil material would be very close to 1/16th of an inch thick.  Even the 45 mil thick EPDM rubber membrane is sufficient for most small to medium size roofing jobs.  In reference to thickness, a 45 Mil thick piece of EPDM rubber roofing Membrane is comparable to the thickness of a dime.  The thicker the rubber membrane the more resistant the EPDM roofing material is to such damaging elements such as hail, tree limbs or flying debris during a violent storm.

Repairing an EPDM membrane roof is relatively simple and easy with the right set of tools and adhesive.  Most EPDM rubber roofing material can be fixed within minutes and with older rubber roofs, they can be revitalized and restored very economically.
