SBS Modified Bitumen
Roofing Systems (styrene-butadiene-styrene) incorporate
a synthetic rubber-based technology which yields
exceptional flexibility, greater cyclic fatigue,
elongation, elastic recovery, and puncture resistance...
even in extremely low temperatures. SBS membranes may be
installed in hot asphalt, cold adhesive or heat welded.
SBS modified bitumen
sheet membranes are prefabricated factory manufactured
rolls of polymer modified bitumen reinforced with one or
more plies of fabric such as polyester and/or
fiberglass. The reinforcing fabrics serve as carriers
for the hot polymer modified bitumen.
SBS polymer-modified bitumen
membranes commonly are installed in hot moppings of
asphalt (similar to BUR systems) or cold adhesive in low
slope residential or commercial roof systems. Some SBS
modified membranes are self adhering, meaning they
contain an adhesive backing.
Generally, APP
modifiers impart a "plasticized" quality to asphalt, and
SBS modifiers impart a "rubberized" quality to asphalt.
Benefits of SBS modified roof
systems:
- Improved elongation
- Low temperature flexibility
- Elastic recovery
- Self adhesive properties
- Long term aging
- Ease of application
- Puncture resistant
- Cost efficient
